Bugeye

The Hot Wheels Bugeye was a 1971 release that is an original design by Larry Wood. The car features a cockpit with a split canopy and a hinged rear hatch that reveals the detailed engine.

It can be found in a variety of Spectraflame colors. The taillights are painted and the redline wheels are capped.

Production was in the U.S. and Hong Kong. A U.S. car has a clear canopy, a white interior, and “U.S.A.” on the base. A Hong Kong car has a blue canopy, a brown interior, and “Hong Kong” on the base.

There is a variation on U.S. cars. The hatch can be smooth or have raised vents. All Hong Kong cars have the raised vents.

Included with the vehicle was a plastic collector’s button. It has a red Bugeye on a yellow background.
