Wisconsin Toy Company

In 1980, the Wisconsin Toy and Novelty Co. Inc. released four different Hot Wheels cars with redline wheels. The company specialized in reselling overstock and closeouts.

The redlines were leftover inventory from a failed 1975 promotion. Five different vehicles were to be given away in specially packaged Proctor & Gamble soap supplies. The promotion was canceled, but Mattel had already produced most of the die-cast cars.

Four of the five unused promotional cars were purchased by the Wisconsin Toy Company. The Buzz Off was the fifth promotional car, but it was not part of the acquisition.

The cars were packaged in a baggie that was stapled to a header card. The Hot Wheels graphic used is quite different than the traditional Hot Wheels logo.
