Ford J-Car

The Hot Wheels Ford J-Car is based upon the predecessor of the Ford GT40 Mk IV, an endurance racing car. The J-Car had an aluminum honeycomb chassis and used experimental aerodynamics.

The die-cast vehicle was a 1968 release and was designed by Harry Bradley. It has an opening rear hatch, bearing redline wheels, and comes in a variety of Spectraflame colors. Some cars are detailed with rocker panel stripes and a “1” in a white circle on the hood and sides.

Production was in the U.S. and Hong Kong. U.S. cars have clear windows, unpainted metal bases, and can have black, brown, or tan interiors.

Hong Kong cars have blue windows, black interiors, and the bases are painted and have “Hong Kong”. Most Hong Kong cars lack louvered vents on the top of the hatch. A variation has a hidden hinge and vents on the hatch.

Included with the car was a collector’s button. The button has a white J-Car on a blue background and can have a notched tab or a smooth tab.
