Mantis

The Hot Wheels Mantis was a 1970 release that is an original design by Ira Gilford. The car features pronounced fender flares, a cockpit, an exposed rear engine, and large exhaust pipes.

It can be found in a variety of Spectraflame colors. The canopy opens to access the cockpit and the redline wheels are capped.

Production was in the U.S. and Hong Kong. A U.S. car has a clear canopy, a white interior, a wide base at the nose, and “U.S.A.” on the base.

A Hong Kong car has a blue canopy, a narrow base at the nose, and “Hong Kong” on the base. The interior can be white or brown.

Included with the vehicle was a collector’s button that can be plastic or metal with a smooth tab. Both buttons have a red Mantis on a yellow background.
