Mighty Maverick

The Hot Wheels Mighty Maverick is based upon a modified Ford Maverick. The compact car was introduced on April 17, 1969 and features a long hood and a fastback roof. It had a successful debut with almost 579,000 vehicles produced the first year.

The die-cast car was a 1970 release that was designed by Howard Rees. It is available in a variety of Spectraflame colors, has a black interior, painted taillights, and a black plastic rear spoiler. The hood opens to reveal a detailed engine and the redline wheels are capped.

Production was in the U.S. and Hong Kong. A U.S. car has clear windows, an all-black grille, and a wide white stripe graphic on the roof. A Hong Kong car has blue tinted windows, a black grille with unpainted headlights, and a narrow white stripe sticker on the roof. “Hong Kong” is on the base.

Orange and copper Hong Kong cars have been found with brown rear wings and interiors. Another Hong Kong variation is a flat-black painted roof with the white stripe over top.

The Mighty Maverick was originally called Mad Maverick, but the name was changed. A few early production cars have been found with “Mad Maverick” on the base.

Included with the vehicle was a metal collector’s button with a smooth tab. The button has a blue Maverick on a yellow background.
