Mongoose II

The Hot Wheels Mongoose II is based upon the the funny car driven by Tom “The Mongoose” McEwen. This version uses the same casting as the previous Mongoose, but it is painted Spectraflame blue and has different stickers. Although only available in Spectraflame blue, cars can be found in various shades.

The die-cast car was a 1971 release that was designed by Larry Wood. It has silver headlights, red taillights, a black interior, and capped redline wheels. The rear-hinged body can be raised, a “U” bar can be swung up, and the body can then rest on the “U” bar.

Production was in the U.S. and Hong Kong. A U.S. car has clear windows and “U.S.A.” on the base. A Hong Kong car has blue tinted windows and “Hong Kong” on the base.

The funny car came packaged on a unique “Mongoose vs. Snake” blister card. Later releases of the car can be on standard blister cards.

Included with the vehicle was a sticker sheet with the Hot Wheels logo, “Tom McEwen The Mongoose II”, and flames with “Plymouth” and “Coca Cola”. A sticker was pre-applied on the right side of the car. There was also a decal sheet that has a variety of logos.

Also included was a plastic collector’s button. The button has a blue Mongoose II on a yellow background.
