Racer Rig

The Hot Wheels Racer Rig is an original design of a flatbed car hauler. The die-cast truck was a 1971 release that was designed by Ira Gilford and Larry Wood. Production was in Hong Kong.

It can be found in Spectraflame red or white enamel. The windows are tinted blue, the interior can be white or brown, and the redline wheels are capped.

A Hot Wheels logo and a blue stripe decorates the sides of the trailer. The bed is white and it has a storage compartment that opens. Ramps extend from the back and the trailer is able to carry other Hot Wheels cars.

The trailer attaches to a cab that is also used with several other vehicles. “The Heavyweights” is on the base of the cab and trailer.

The truck was released as part of the Heavyweights series. Included with the vehicle was a plastic collector’s button. The button features a white Racer Rig on a light blue background.

The Racer Rig is known for “crumbling”. Crumbling is when the body or base cracks and eventually breaks into pieces. This is caused by impure metals being used in the zamac alloy.
