The Hot Wheels Red Baron is based upon the Monogram model kit designed by Tom Daniel. The die-cast car was a 1974 release that was designed by Howard Rees and produced in Hong Kong.
The hot rod has red enamel paint and an unpainted helmet with a rounded nub at the top. Details include a black interior with a steering wheel and dashboard. The redline wheels are through-hole. Later releases can have black wall wheels.
It is a reissue of the Red Baron from 1973 with several differences. The reissue has a dashboard and steering wheel and the helmet has a rounded nub instead of a point.
Rounded protectors on the base are only by the back wheels whereas the 1973 Red Baron had protectors by all four wheels. All the redline wheels are through-hole. The previous version had through-hole wheels in the front and capped in the back.
