The Hot Wheels Snake is based upon the funny car driven Don “The Snake” Prudhomme. Don Prudhomme along with his racing rival, Tom “The Mongoose” McEwen, were drag racers that were sponsored by Hot Wheels. Don raced a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda and Tom raced a 1970 Plymouth Duster.

The die-cast car was a 1970 release that was designed by Larry Wood. It is yellow enamel with silver headlights, red taillights, a black interior, and capped redline wheels. The rear-hinged body can be raised, a “U” bar can be swung up, and the body can then rest on the “U” bar.

Production was in the U.S. and Hong Kong. A U.S. car has clear windows and “U.S.A.” on the base. A Hong Kong car has blue tinted windows and “Hong Kong” on the base.

The funny car came packaged on a unique “Mongoose vs. Snake” blister card. Included with the vehicle was a collector’s button that can be plastic or metal with a smooth tab. The plastic button has a light green background with an orange Snake and the metal button has a green background with a yellow Snake.

Also included was a sticker sheet with the Hot Wheels logo, “Don Prudhomme The Snake”, “Plymouth”, “Enjoy Coca Cola”, and stars & stripe graphics. When in a blister pack, a sticker was pre-applied on the right side of the car.

There was also a water slide decal sheet that has a variety of logos. The decal sheet was also included with the Mongoose.
