The Volkswagen is based upon a Volkswagen Beetle with a large blown engine. It was designed by Ira Gilford and produced in Hong Kong.

The die-cast car is orange enamel decorated with a black, yellow, and green bug graphic on the roof. It has blue tinted windows, a black interior, a black plastic base, and through-hole redline wheels.

It is one of four Hot Wheels vehicles released by the Wisconsin Toy and Novelty Company. Each vehicle came packaged in a baggie with a header card that has an unusual Hot Wheels logo.

Wisconsin Toy specialized in closeouts and overstock. The Hot Wheels cars they sold were leftovers from a canceled 1975 promotion between Mattel and Proctor & Gamble.
